2015 Trip to Lone Elk Park
Well, our first trip to Lone Elk Park was so much fun it was if we were on safari car pooling one right after the other. Arriving early we got underway and had the roads to ourselves for quite a while being fortunate to see a lot of animals. As most of you know it's iffy as far as seeing the herds or a "Lone Elk" but the photography spirits ventured on through the hills with us coaxing the animals out for some great shots. Thank you to Mike Greminger with his co pilot John Robertson for letting Bob and I ride in the back of his truck I haven't done that in years and we were able to scout the territory like pros standing up using the roof as our leaning post withe the wind brushing our faces....as I looked back to check on everyone all I could do was smile, there was Leah sticking out the sun roof, Scott, hanging out the window, Evelina, Linnie, Betty, Dustin, Anna,Gail,Wanda, our pilot and co-pilot out of the vehicles at different times... Great times.... Good weather, fine friends and wildlife to photograph.......... It was the best day.....
Mike can we ride in the back of your truck again sometime ???
2015 Trip to the Saint Louis Zoo
What a day to visit the zoo, our decision to change our original date sure paid off. The morning was a bright over cast day with a cool breeze leading us effortlessly as we walked from exhibit to exhibit. There we are few new spring babies but not as many as I had hoped. I believe the most excitement came for not only myself but for all of us in that we were able to capture those elusive shots we were not able to get before. Just as always it was a great trip that was fun and productive for our portfolios.
2015 Trip to the Cathedral Basilica
Our first trip out this year was to the Cathedral Basilica and what an impressive outing for all of us that were able to share in those moments. We were taken on a tour with tales of your that whisked us away to ta time gone by as the dimly lit church cloaked us in its elegance and tradition. I was amazed that were able to move freely while being encouraged by our tour guide to get the best shots. There were times in the smaller chapels where he was gracious enough to TURN THE LIGHTS ON <> HOW WILD IT THAT. It was a moving experience to be in such a magnificent sanctuary adorned in the finest splendor.
2014 Trip to the Butterfly House
A beautiful spring day unfolded for our clubs first field trip for 2014 at the Butterfly house in Faust Park. Some of our members brought there families out to enjoy the butterfly hunt, we were so happy to meet them.
There was no hurry, no pressure to get the perfect shot, we started together spotting butterflies for each other and we were all thrilled when the butterflies, flowers and the scenery were captured. All of us were well aware that the photographer we shouldered up against taking shots at the same time was more than capable of capturing a ribbon winner for the next competition. That is what's so phenomenal about the club, there are no rivals only fellow members who are our friends that we can't do enough for. Anna was so happy that Scott showed her how to use her macro setting right there on the spot , Thanks Scott. Leah and Scott are the best! always thinking of everyone before there selves. They are the foundation of what the club stands for.
I can't imagine how many shots of the same butterfly were taken time and time again, we looked like the paparazzi after Brad Pitt. I am not kidding take a look at the shot below when a bold butterfly elected to gracefully sit upon one of our members head... I told you.. Paparazzi
After everyone was soaked through from the humidity we ventured out to enjoy our picnic lunch.. Some were able to linger a little longer visiting the carrousel and the town inside the park.
We had a wonderful day, thank you to all that came and for sharing their families with us, we missed those that weren't able to join us. I was delighted to be able to meet Jay's wife who is a budding photographer in her own right. I saw a photograph of an owl I think she should enter in September...
2014 Field Trip to the Zoo
Our great luck with beautiful weather held fast once again enabling us to get together for our trip to the zoo in fine fashion. After gathering at the meeting point, we discussed tragedies of what animals and things were on our list to shoot, with a camera that is, and we were on our way. Pairing off in different groups we set out to capture those elusive shots we hadn't shot before. It was great, we had so much fun in just being together, while running into the other paired off groups, no pressure, just friends out enjoying the day with a common denominator "Photography"
At lunch though in between the bits of food we were all showing each other some of our photos on the cameras view finders.. It was a bit of food then a picture to look at, then a bit of food, a picture.. All of the folly makes me smile to think of it even now.....wonderful memories we are forging as a club.
2015 Trip to the Museum of Transportation
What a beautiful day to visit the Museum of Transportation. I can't say enough how lucky we have been all year with our field trips. Our talented photographers we able to capture some wonderful shots.
2015 Trip to the Botanical Gardens
This year we lucked out again, with a iffy weekend predicting rain and storms but we made it with a great morning for communing with nature. We had veteran members and we enjoyed the company of our newest member Betty Brutcher and her friend Linny who announced she would be officially joining our crew. I didn't get as many pictures personally that I would have liked because I was just enjoying being in the moment with our members of our club coming together once again. There are so many neat things that I just kind of stood back and watched as our new members blended right in as if they had been on many trips, Jack helping Linny with her camera never missing a beat, Leah making sure everyone was gathered up starting the day and then again at the end. We all coupled up and went different directions but there was a sense of unity while apart. These field trips gives us a little more time to get to know one another, quick glimpses into our lives on a more personal level all the while clicking away. All of us are getting very good at talking and clicking while getting incredible shots.....

2015 Trip to the Kemp Auto Museum
This last Saturday in April we visited the Kemp Auto Museum with a sense of urgency because they are closing the doors in May 2015 So we grabbed the cameras and set out to capture the vintage cars that were on display. Lighting was a challenge but with the right settings one could capture these cars spotlighted before us. I would imagine there will be some entries in the transportation category this fall from our talented members who were able to attend.
2014 Trip to the Botanical Gardens
How lucky can we be another outstanding day to visit the gardens. Our most accomplished photographers were able to stroll leisurely throughout the park basking in the beauty that surrounded them. After hundreds of shots we all went to lunch sharing our ideas and moments from the day.. We have such a great membership I am so proud to be apart of the club.
2014 Trip to the Bellefontaine Cemetery
October for most is the month that truly represents the fall season in it's coat of many colors. As photographers we wait and hope as the days pass for brilliant hues of red, orange and yellow turning to gold.
As the month progresses ghost and goblins come into play and where do you normally find them, where else in a cemetery of course. Our members made there way to one of the most celebrated resting places in the country for the beauty of the architecture in the departed's final resting places. All Hallows Eve will soon be upon us and our members chose to honor the dead instead of poking fun at their eternal conditions. I am sure if they stopped to listen they could hear ever so faintly the spirits whispering "Take my picture please".
2014 Field Trip to The Aircraft Museum
We've had the best summer in years and with every outing the most incredible weather, but this last weekend the warm rains descended allowing the foliage to sing hallelujah with every drop. Our members didn't let the rain deter them when it comes to finding that perfect shot at the aircraft museum. There were plenty of opportunities to capture those days gone by with all of the history in each hanger.
"We had so much fun, I don't know what I liked better the planes or all of us going to lunch wrapping up the day together" said one member to me.
That is what our club stands for, learning, fun and friendship.
2014 Field Trip to the City Museum
The City Museum remains unknown for most of us who we unable to partake in this field trip, but those that battled the crowds and found their way captured the most awesome photographs. I am so proud of the individual perseverance that our members have to enjoy what the city and countrysides has to offer. They realize there are those moments that might not come again.
